"Just further ahead." Gwyar said, glancing over his shoulder back to Thomas before turning his gaze forward once again.

Besides him, an Aegislash hovered impassively, seemingly unaffected by the terrible, blasted heat that threatened to smother them all.

They were nearing Mt. Chimney's caldera, already.

"I had heard a gym leader once lived around here." Gwyar said airily as their steep climb finally brought them to a somewhat leveled ground.

Lava not too far in the distance. Gwyar had chosen a dangerous place to set down his 'little shack', it seemed.

Said shack stood not too far ahead of them— numerous blades had been discarded along the path leading to it. Gwyar paid them no heed as he continued onwards, his Aegislash fleeting from one sword to the next curiously in the meanwhile.

Given the terrain, Thomas opted for a lighter suit of body armor than usual. Something to provide protection, while not leaving him as prone to a heat stroke. As they walked, Thomas took a swig of water.

Mordred, the Ceruledge, wandered by his master's side. Unlike Thomas, the Ceruledge felt right at home in the hot climate. Benefits of being a Fire-type.

"You talking about Stormy?", Thomas inquired. "Considering she was partners with Moltres, she must've been right at home here."

Unlike FERNANDO SILPH, Stormy Silph had never betrayed Thomas. He had nothing but fond memories of the girl, despite her hot-headed tendencies. He only wished that his last moments with her were better.

"So what, you pick this place for the smithing potential?", joked Thomas.

Gwyar wasn't super sure in the beginning of why the other man was armored— but then he remembered that despite the veneer of normalcy, Hoenn was, technically, a region at war.

Better safe than sorry.

"Not quite! The name 'Zac Ramsay', familiar to you? He was a Biome specialist." He said as they neared the shack. "Also an edu-entertainer of sorts, I believe? My daughters watched him on the webs all the time."

Not knowing the dark thoughts going through the other's mind, he merely laughed at the other's suggestion.

"You would think— but lava is actually a really poor substitute for fire, as it turns out!"

Not having quite as much of a scientific grasp as he did a practical one when he had first moved there, he had attempted to make a forge utilizing lava as a heat source, with some pokemon assistance.

The results were some of the brittle, crappy swords surrounding the shack.

"Unfortunately, I only came to find how unsuitable it was by wasting good iron." He sighed. "Ah well— lesson learned."

As they near the shack, he throws the door open. It is a shabby place, clearly built by a man and his pokemon in a rush to get down to their work.

Galatine floated in, drawn to the anvil near the oven.

"That so? You got me there. Never knew Ramsay all too well.", Thomas remarked. Which was funny, given that Thomas was also well-versed in the creation of specialized biomes. One would think he'd have reached out to Zac for at least consulting. But Thomas never had the opportunity to speak to the giant of a man.

Given her connection to Moltres, he was sure that she would've taken residence at Mt. Chimney. With her being Fallarbor's Gym Leader, it was a logical fit.

"How are your kids doing these days?", Thomas inquired idly.

"I see.", Thomas replied. He'd then take in the proverbial graveyard of failed blades that littered the landscape. Proverbial living failures, markings of his mentor's half-cocked experiments.

Thomas took a look around the shack. Though the shabby state would surprise many, given Gwyar's standing in society, it only made Thomas chuckle. "Now people can't complain about my living situation.", Thomas remarked.

Had Gwyar visited, he'd notice how spartan Thomas' accommodations were. Especially in comparison to what he gave his Pokemon.

"I went to see them shotly after the Ruins' fiasco." He told the younger man, a smile rising on his lips. "They're both well, mercifully. You should come visit them when you've time."

He had been worried at the time about Necrozma's attack on Galar— well, mostly about his family and the people in his family's lands. Mercifully, it didn't appear as though the black knight was all too interested in the tundra.

Walking past a workbench, his hands fleeted over the stone surface, picking up dust as they thumbed numerous tools. For her part, Galatine rested contentedly atop the anvil, as if it were her own bed.

"Hey now! These arenot my living quarters!" The blonde protested with a half-laugh, shaking his head. "Though my actual apartment isn't much better."

Part of flying under the radar was doing his best to live as a normal cop... which included, unfortunately, living in a tiny, shabby apartment in the cheap part of Sootopolis.

One that received all too regular visits from very reckless rockets.

"Should I be worried about you, though?" He asked with a knowing smile as he grabbed a leather apron, putting it on before following with some large leather gloves.

"Good to hear they're safe. Doubt they'd care to see me, though.", Thomas remarked.

Even if they didn't know he was the Wraith, he still felt as if he was permanently marked by the sins he'd committed. That he was forever condemned to be a monster. Even without that knowledge, he was still the man who turned his back on the League in their hour of need. A man who let his petty anger get the better of him, in one of the worst possible ways.

Thomas immediately unpacked a bag of his own. Special supplies he had gathered, for the purpose of maintaining and reinforcing the ghostly set of armor Mordred inhabited.

"Right, your living quarters, in Rocket-occupied Sootpololis. Can't imagine you'd be living it up in that hellhole.", Thomas replied, a dry chuckle escaping him.

Surely, Gwyar heard about what happened the last time he was in Sootopolis. That a bounty hunter handed him over to Rocket, only for him to quickly escape, and go on a rampage through their jail. He left several Rockets brutalized in the wake of his attack, and caused them to unleash 'Operation Plague', in an attempt to contain him.

He'd even leave a broadcast to taunt them, before making his escape with a captured HBIC agent.

"I'm not the one living in the Pyroar's den. Besides, I got the best medical attention one could ask for, waiting back home."

"I'm more worried about you living like a caveman." The blonde said dryly.

The other's comments about his daughter's went unacknowledged; they really didn't need the conversation getting somber that quick.

"Do you still remember how to perform armor upkeep?" He asked Thomas casually as he tugged at the leather gloves, letting them slap into place. "I can't imagine you've worn many a cuirass since we last saw each other— but who knows, maybe you developed taste since I last taught you."

His smile was very cheeky as he grabbed hammer and tonsils from the workbench.

Were the other man was often seen wearing what could be called modern military tactical gear, Gwyar often preferred stylish, if entirely outdated, plates of tempered steel.

"Thomas live very comfy life! Thomas no need magic fireplace! Thomas touch grass, dig hole, Thomas very happy!", Thomas retorted, in a mock-caveman manner. It was clear that he was having fun with this.

Mordred got into position. After putting on his safety gloves and pulling down the face shield, Thomas began to get to work on the haunted armor diligently. It was clear from his work that Thomas had been keeping up with the skills Gwyar had taught him.

"Of course I have. Needed to, after Ripper evolved. And Mordred here is another Pokemon that'll benefit from it.", Thomas replied to the nobleman, without missing a beat.

For a moment, the Ceruledge seemed to let go of his normal simmering anger. He was clearly enjoying the upkeep, and the climate. It was as if this was a spa day for Mordred.

He snorted, giving the other man a squint.

Gwyar wasn't 'in' enough to know of the memefication of touching grass.

"Well, at least you're happy." He said with a smile and an eye roll, approaching the anvil were Galatine rested.

His hand grasped a whetstone as he took a seat before his aegislash.

"Is that so? I'm glad." He said, genuinely.

The expertise of steel handling that he had possessed even before taking up smithing... Perks of being a steel-type specialist.

He turned his smile to Galatine, gently grasping at her handle as he brought the blade against the whetstone.

"Now then... shall we begin?"
